DUH! This Did Not Happen Overnight
I was watching a commercial for what I believe was Access Hollywood and they had a teaser that said “Are girls choosing sexy over smart?” Then they proceeded to briefly show clips of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan. Then a professional looking lady came on and said something like “Girls are starting to prefer being sexy over being smart.”
Well duh! Thanks for noticing 10 years after the fact. This didn’t just happen yesterday, this has been an ongoing thing in our society. When do young ladies get to see the benefits of being intelligent? When do they get to see that brains are more important than body?
They don’t, because all you hear is stuff like:
That Size 2 Celebrity is Too Fat, Look at Her
Showing Your Half Naked Body is The Way To Fame and Fortune
Curves Are Not Ok, Especially if you Want People To Look At You
I tip my hat at the show for trying to bring light to this issue, but I’m skeptical as to whether they’ll do the subject justice, or just put out another piece of fluff that supports the sexy over smart mentality.
