Jill Scott Nude in Allure

I’ll try to resist the urge to throw in my slightly-feminist slant, and just tell you that Jill Scott has posed nude for Allure magazine.

This is supposed to be empowering because only thin people take their clothes off in magazines. We are supposed to look at her and say “wow, she is beautiful”

Scratch what I said about keeping my slant out of this because it has to be said.

Big, small, short, tall, it doesn’t matter what you are, taking your clothes off for a magazine is not empowering, it’s degrading and objectifying.

When will women get this through their heads?

Liz Funk put it best when in an article where she said:

It’s understood that women are the foremost oppressed group to embrace their oppressors…for the most part, young women get a lot of positive reinforcement for playing a role in their own marginalization. In fact, today’s young women have been taught that playing such a role can actually be empowering!…the joke is on them, because others don’t actually see them as powerful. [Source]

Please, please, please spare me the “don’t hate” comments.

I wish I could give it some credit and say well at least Allure is being open-minded, but heck the photo is photoshopped to death! I wish I could wear a size 16 and have a flat stomach! Heck even at a size 10 my belly is as round as it wants to be.

I’m done.
