The city of Los Angeles wants to protect public health by banning new fast food restaurants in low income areas.

The purpose is to give healthier alternatives a chance to step in and improve everyones health.

While I understand the sentiment, it’s rubbing me the wrong way for several reasons.

Instead of shutting everything down and setting the table for the US to be turned into some sort of food dictatorship, why don’t they just offer incentives for healthier restaurants to come in?

I’ve heard that the fast food restaurants are the only wants who really want to build in that area anyway so just because you shut them down, it doesn’t mean that the health food nuts will happily come prancing around in the “impoverished areas”.

Besides, people buy what they can afford and if a government really wants to make sure people eat healthy foods, then they should poke their noses in where it matters- make sure the prices are lower.

Give me the choice between a grease filled meal for 4 that costs $7 and a bland tasting meal for 4 that costs $30 and sorry, I’m going for the $7- and I’m not even struggling to make ends meat.

And the fact that they are referring to this as a public health crisis makes me laugh. This is nothing but pure control and elitism at work.

If the city and the people who support this could write a letter, here is what it would say.

Dear Underprivileged,

I know what’s best for you because I am so much more educated than you are. If you were really educated about what’s best for you, you would make the exact same decisions that I would, but since you are so poor and under privileged you need us to think for you.

About that money thing, don’t worry about it. Just work harder like the rest of us and then you’ll have everything you need. Stop being so lazy.

You need us to think for you. You’ll thank us later.
