Reality TV Contestant Says: I Chose To Be Fat

Juanita La Gordita

Posted by Gina C. on October 2nd, 2008

I forgot that Desperate Housewives premiered on Sunday. I can’t believe it slipped my mind seeing as how I’ve been counting down since last seasons finale.

Anyway, one of the characters, Gabrielle, played by Eva Longoria Parker, has a daughter named Juanita. The girl is supposed to be four, but she isn’t the size of most four year old’s. The main story line around this character was her weight.

My question is about the actual little girl whose real name is Madison Delagarza. How is this making her feel to play a character who is seen a fat and undesirable? Does it impact her at all to play this role where parents are whispering behind her back and trying to trick her into exercising by playing “let’s chase the car.”

How do you explain to a child, “you just got a great acting role as the fat daughter who eats too much cake”?

Am I over reacting? It’s just acting right?

I don’t know because it looks pretty close to how things are in reality to me.

Yeah, I was a little surprised that they were so harsh about a little girl being overweight… then I realised that I was even more shocked by how big this girl is, and especially for 6-year-old (her real age, I believe).

Some children are heavier and still basically healthy, but if you look at this girl’s face you can see how massively overweight she is. Bad, bad parenting.

On top of it all, the poor thing is the half-sister of the gorgeous and thin Demi Lovato, who is supposed to be like the next next Miley Cyrus: http://evilbeetgossip.film.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/demi_lovato.jpg

i totally agree with you.
