Mo’Nique Reaches Curvy Teens
Comedienne and actress Mo’Nique is expanding her horizons. In 2004 she wrote the book Skinny Women Are Evil. In 2006, she penned Skinny Cooks Can’t Be Trusted, but now she’s moved into the teen lit genre with her newest book Beacon Hills High.
Getting into Millwood High, the “tightest” high school in Baltimore, is all that’s been consuming thirteen-year-old F.A.T. (Fabulous And Thick, that is) Eboni Michelle Imes. When she’s accepted, all that she can think about are four years of fun with her best friends, Michelle, Yolanda, and Charisse—the TTC (the Too Tight Crew)…
A charming coming-of-age story that deals with common adolescent issues such as body image, being the “new girl” in school, and adjusting to a new neighborhood, Beacon Hills High is sure to resonate with not only Mo’Nique’s young fans, but also teenage girls everywhere.
Mo’Nique told BlackVoices.com that she hopes her book is a platform that helps teens make a difference.
“Not only is this book for young adults, it’s for us too,” she said. “We’re nothing but kids with grown up faces. My book questions your character and your judgment. Even though Eboni is thirteen, somebody who is forty-three can pick up and learn from it, because I did.”
It sounds like this will be very inspiring for young girls.
