Celebrating Curves in History

Posted by Gina C. on December 31st, 2008

Before we all get on our Nutrisystem, Slim Fast, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Curves spells, let’s take a little time to appreciate curvy women.

Hey, I’m not judging because I have a few things I’ll be trying in the New Year, but I won’t let it become my focus.

Diet Blog has written Celebrating Women With Curves: A Historical Perspective so take a look.

It sure beats that “roudness is so unattractive and unhealthy and you should be ashamed of yourself” mantra that is forced upon us. Because the truth is that attitudes have changed and the media has a lot to do with it; and there are some socioeconomic factors too.

I remember watching a special on TV that discussed how at one point in time having some meat on your bones was seen as good because if you were thin it meant you were poor- you couldn’t afford to eat lavish foods.

Now I guess it’s changed and in some cases plump is seen as poor because you can’t afford organic foods and expensive gym memberships; or you are just “so uneducated” on nutrition and health.

Bleh!
