Fat as an Insult

Posted by Gina C. on February 17th, 2009

One thing that really bothers me is how the word fat is no longer used to describe the opposite thin; it’s used to describe something that is seen as lazy, undesirable, and in some cases uneducated.

Fat= lazy?

Fat = uneducated?

Fat= biggest insult in the world?

Maybe I am having a random moment in my head but I thought fat was just fat. It’s just a natural part of having a body. We all have fat, it’s just that some people have more than others.

But these days you call someone fat and either they’ll bust out the tears or put up their fists.

I’ll admit it, I’m under the influence too. I don’t want to be called fat, but I have to ask myself why?

Why is that the biggest insult in the world? Why is that the word fat is no longer a descriptor, but an attack on a persons character?

Hi, I really want to start a magazine for plus size women who want to be mega fashionable and sexy (not slutty sexy though).

I’ve always wanted to Edit etc and work as an Editorial production Assistant (but in a very differnt field). I was wondering if there was a) something out there already like the ASOS Magazine for example but for Plus sized women (not sure if there is ASOS in the states) but for example (again) Baby Phat do a hot picks newsletter - but what if someone did it across all stores - for plus size women???

What do people think? I was wondering if you could perhaps write up a poste like this and people could respond to let me know if something like this would be useful/good for them??

Thanks,

Sorry I couldnt find another way on this site to write to you!
